your creativity matters

You have a creative force within you and I bet that sometimes you resist that force. You find reasons to ignore it and to squish it deeper inside. Maybe you’re afraid (a lot of us are), maybe you’re lazy (hey, been there), or maybe you’ve been talked out of it by someone else (for whatever their reasons are). Either way, you’ve got it, this creative force, and I wanted to tell you that I think it matters. I think it matters a lot.

Imagine a world without creativity of any kind. A basic bread and water kind of existence devoid of anything which develops from human creativity. This would be a world without anything to look at, sit on, listen to, be excited about. Creativity is at the seat of everything around you. It is responsible for everything that wouldn’t be if human beings did not exist.

A cure for polio could not exist without the creative scientific mind.

A bed could not exist had there not been someone to imagine it, daydream about it, create it.

The computer your reading this on wouldn’t have stood a chance without a creative, daring mind willing to dream of a thing which, at the time, seemed unfathomable.

But what about you? Why does your creativity matter?

Creativity is not absolute. It does not operate in a vacuum and doesn’t exist as a singular entity. Our collective creativity is what makes the world what it is. Your creativity is an important part of the global community. It is a piece of a puzzle you can’t see and might sometimes find it hard to believe exists. It is one ray of sunshine among billions, each ray no more important than the next. The sun would still shine without you but it shines brighter if you join in.

Your creativity matters.

Sometimes it’s easier to shuffle along and not put in the effort. Creativity isn’t easy. It sounds like it should be but it’s not. It requires energy and light and enthusiasm. There are days when being creative feels like dragging yourself through wet cement. There are days when it’s painful to yank your muse out of bed and put her to work. There are days you can’t even remember what creativity means and you don’t want to.

Your creativity still matters.

Remember yourself as that ray of sunshine and know that every time we feel your warmth, the world is a better brighter place. On the days when you think ech, why bother, know that I hope you continue to develop that creative force. Know that I think you matter, that I appreciate you standing knee deep in wet cement and trying to make it to that creative place in your mind.

Your creativity matters. And I thank you for sharing it.
