deep core strengthening at Yoga Today

The quest for a tighter midsection is universal. We’ve all spent time on the floor in front of the TV desperately flinging ourselves around in the hopes that we’d come away with maybe not a six pack but at least something better than a keg. There are DVDs and contraptions a-plenty out there for you to spend your hard earned money on but you’ll no doubt agree that free is better. Especially when free really is better.

Yoga Today is a website offering free one hour yoga classes. You can also find their shorter to-the-point videos on iTunes and YouTube. One worth checking out immediately is the Deep Core Strengthening with Adi Amar (see video). There are no better spent 9 minutes in the search for a flatter stomach. Follow these three exercises and you will find yourself getting stronger and less anxious about your t-shirt accidentally riding up when you reach for a glass from the top shelf at work.

In the beginning, you might find the exercises in this video more challenging than you think you’re ready for. The answer is not to give up but rather to modify according to your current strength and ability. Do fewer reps or pause the video to take a break when you need it. There is no question that if you carry on you will, over a shorter period of time than you think, see improvements in strength and tone. In addition, if done right and regularly, you may see improvements in any low back pain you might be experiencing as a toned midsection does wonders for supporting the small of your back.
