recipe storage solutions

Do you have a collection of recipes yanked from magazines in doctor’s waiting rooms or from friend’s houses? Do you cut them out nicely from magazines you subscribe to and then shove them into the back of a recipe box or a drawer? Does anyone every actually use these recipes? Is there a better way to keep your magazine recipe collection without having to copy every one of them onto recipe cards by hand?

Absolutely. You can quickly and easily make magazine recipes a part of your existing set of recipe cards with some scissors and tape. Follow these instructions and get ready for more dinnertime options.

1. Select the recipe you want to keep for future use.

2. Get something to cut a straight line (scissors, X-ACTO, paper cutter) and an adhesive ( tape, double sided tape, glue).

3. Cut your recipe out – trying to get it as small as you can so that it fits on your recipe cards. I usually cut out a portion of the recipe photo (if there is one) as well.

4. Adhere the ingredients list to the front of the card (and onto the back, if necessary).

5. Adhere instructions and, if you have room, the recipe image as well.

Some recipes will be more difficult to make fit on a small recipe card. This is easily fixed by adhering a portion of the recipe to the card and folding the rest up to fit. Even the most complicated recipe can be saved with this method.

Some magazines also make recipes available online but I prefer a paper copy of all of our family favorites because they are far easier to use on the countertop. Even a laptop, which is portable, gets in the way when you’re trying to cook. I also avoid having my computer nearby when cooking to avoid disastrous food/technology encounters.

Try using this method next time you find a magazine recipe you like to make sure it doesn’t get lost in the junk drawer on the bottom of your purse.

Oh, I love the scrapbooky aspect to your recipe storage solution. I have mine all thrown into a binder with some clear plastic paper protectors. Not nearly as pretty, but it still keeps them all handy and quick to find when I need a favorite recipe!
