olive oil and white wine vinegar salad dressing recipe

Home made salad dressings are easy as heck to prepare and far healthier than the store bought alternatives with their questionable additives, preservatives and other ingredients that just don’t sound edible in any way. Here’s a scrumptious dressing perfect for any basic lettuce and veg salad.

Ingredient amounts are not listed because you’ll obviously want to prepare as much as suits your needs. Since this recipe is so simple I tend to make only what I require for the salad of the moment but you can certainly prepare a larger quantity to have on hand. Remember though, this will not contain preservatives and so won’t have the same shelf life as store bought dressings. Store unused portions in the refrigerator.

Oil to vinegar ratio tends to be 3:1 but please use whatever amounts you like best. Using better quality oil and vinegar will add to the flavor of this dressing.

ingredients
extra virgin olive oil
white wine vinegar
mayonnaise
mustard
garlic powder (or fresh chopped garlic if you’d rather)
salt
fresh black pepper

here’s what you do
Combine oil and vinegar. Add a squeeze of mayo and a smaller squeeze of mustard. Season with garlic powder, salt and pepper. Toss with salad. Eat, be healthy, be happy!

~ ~ ~

put all ingredients in a bowl

stir

toss with salad

See? Easy. No need to spend any more of your hard earned money on store bought salad dressings!

you have lettuce growing! oh i am so very jealous! i have lots of herbs but no lettuce! i just told Dan we have to figure out a way for me to grow lettuce because all i eat all summer is salad.

  3. This looks wonderful. I would imagine that if one left out the mayo it would be quite good, too … and it would be vegan.

The great thing about homemade dressings is that one can really control what goes into them … and since most commercial brands seem to include high fructose corn syrup and hydrogenated oils … homemade is definitely healthier!

You could definitely leave out the mayo without it having much effect on taste. I add it only because I like the way it helps the dressing cling to the lettuce.

Commercial dressings are frightful and I always think that if only people knew how easy it is to make your own the store bought dressing industry would disappear.

    Thanks for the comment :)

yes, lots of lettuce! you could even get like a window planter and plant some in there! you could do a couple growings a season, it takes no time at all to get started…. am gonna have a salad tomorrow. ;-)
