congratulations on your latest failure!
So, what are you? Better than Edison? You think you’re too good for a little bit of failure on your way to incredible wonderful success? Hmph, well then.
Look, failure sucks. The anticipation of it sucks, the going through of it sucks, the sitting there afterward sucks. It sucks. But I’ve got to tell you, it’s an absolute necessity if you ever want to succeed. And I know you want to succeed. I can tell by the look of you. You’ve got success written all over you.
The problem is, so many of us never get past the anticipation failure. You’ve probably had a few great ideas, right? You get excited about these ideas and maybe even take a few steps in the direction of making them a reality. But something happens. You talk yourself out of that great idea because no one will like it, what was I thinking, it’s been done before, I suck, why bother.
That’s why you bother. Because yes, maybe you’ll miss. Maybe you’ll take that shot and it’ll fly wide. You might miss the mark this time. Next time. The time after. But if you never take the shot, you never score.
Failing means you’re taking the shot and if you’re taking the shot, you’re half way there. So next time you try something and don’t quite hit the mark you intended, give yourself a pat on the back. Congratulate yourself on a job well done. Failure is a pretty good indication of the success you can expect in the future. People who claim to have never failed at anything probably haven’t got a lot to show for themselves.
Every failure is a lesson in what to do next time you’re out there ready to take the shot. You learn a lot more from failing than you do from playing it safe and never trying at all. Every successful person will tell you they’ve failed far more often than they succeeded. They wouldn’t be where they are if they hadn’t.
So, congratulations on your latest failure! It looks good on you! I can’t wait to see what you come up with next! Maybe this time the shot will go in the net. Maybe not. Either way.
Failure isn’t fun. Do it anyway.
