featured video: baby bunnies in my back yard!

Several weeks ago we noticed a rather thick about the middle bunny building what looked like a little home under one section of our play structure. Unlike many suburban home owners, we did not react to this with morbid thoughts of bunniside. Rather, we were genuinely excited to see the eventual outcome of her efforts. Some time passed, however, and it seemed as though her work had been for nothing. No babies appeared and we thought that she’d changed her mind and issued them forth elsewhere.

Then one day last week my husband and I were doing some work in the yard when I noticed what appeared to be a dead baby bunny along the fence. I did what all girls would do: I screamed, wiggled my hands in that oh there’s something so upsetting and sad and icky over there! way. I sent him over to have a look – grateful that he would have the courage to deal with the remains. It turns out this baby was not only alive but was laying on top of another perfectly alive bunny. Turns out they were too young to know they should fear me. Too small to consider bounding away in fright. Their only defense seemed to be perfect stillness so as to appear dead. Worked on me, well done baby bunnies.

We eventually discovered that there were 5 such babies laying in little beds they’d created along the fence. Here is a short video of the first two we found.

How cute is that?! Glad they found a home with people who would enjoy and appreciate them and not see them as pests! So sweet. :)

Thanks :) We are really loving having them as guests in our yard. We all go out several time a day to check o the bunnies. I think it’s so nice for the kids to see nature in action and to be taught respect and love for it.

Thanks also for the link. That was very sweet of you and is very much appreciated!
